Internet World: Shopware and the masses in Munich

As Germany’s leading manufacturer of online shop systems, it should come as no surprise we have a strong presence at the most important eCommerce fairs. The two most important fairs in Germany have already come and gone: dmexco in Cologne and Internet World in Munich.

The Internet World once again opened their doors this week, and, as every year, brought countless impressions and experiences – the contacts we made with customers and partners will certainly keep us busy in the coming weeks.

Devolo wins the Shop Award

The exhibition actually kicked off the day before the doors officially opened to the public. This is when an important gala for eCommerce takes place, awarding “Shop Awards” on behalf of the Internet Business World magazine. The Devolo online shop, which uses Shopware, was awarded the honor of “Best Product Presentation” in B2B retail.

On the first exhibition day, we had the feeling there were less attendees than previous years, possibly due to poor weather conditions. Nevertheless, there was never a dull moment at the Shopware stand, which was buzzing the entire event. Frank Buschhaus said of his trip to the exhibition: “I came from Nurnberg specifically because I wanted a live presentation of Shopware. I am rather excited.” Another visitor from Munich, Simone Borgert, said: “I think I found the new solution for my business. Shopware’s functions are really diverse and just right for me.”

Networking with beats and beer

On the first night, the Shopware stand was open to visitors and exhibitors to enjoy beer, music and Currywurst. Per typical Shopware fashion, the stand was a popular spot until late in the evening, proving once again that such a networking event certainly pays after a long day at the exhibition. The relaxed atmosphere also posed as a great opportunity to more personally connect with the customers and partners we normally interact with through phone and email.  

The second exhibition day, which is typically quieter than the first, held even more surprises with interested customers and partners. We would like to highlight the entertaining and exceptionally titled lecture “So it looks like shit – then make it look interesting” by Shopware’s Stefan Zessel and Phillip Scharlau. With both presentations being a full house with spectators lining the wall, the content inspired shop owners to identify and improve upon problem areas in their shop with more appealing design and usability.

We were excited to clearly identify a trend that will become increasingly important in the future: based on several conversations with our partners, we found that requests for B2B solutions are steadily increasing. The B2B sleeping giant has finally awakened!
