Shopware 5.6 available now
Today sees the release of Shopware 5.6, the latest version of Shopware’s “5” product line. The release shows that the current version is still a high priority for the manufacturer despite the forthcoming release of Shopware 6. The release is intended to act as a link between Shopware 5 and the new technology.
Shopware shops generate an annual turnover of 5.8 billion euros
“Shopware 5 has been downloaded over 800,000 times and in 2018, Shopware shops generated a total turnover of 5.8 billion euros. The version has been a reliable growth driver for us in recent years and the well-established system will continue to be the right solution for retailers for a long time to come. There will be long-time support in place for this product line for at least another 5 years”, promised Shopware CEO Sebastian Hamann at the Shopware Community Day in May. Shopware 5.6 is the first step on this path.
New features and improvements
As with previous versions, Shopware took the wishes of the community into account when developing version 5.6 and incorporated numerous features and improvements that Shopware users had asked for.
The system now automatically recognises various dependencies in the user administration and makes it even easier to define user roles, for example. The Shopping Worlds feature has also been updated and contains two new valuable tools. Users can now determine whether a Shopping World should be displayed on the homepage only or on the subsequent pages of a listing as well, and the reloading of Shopping Worlds can now be deactivated. This ensures better search engine optimisation and improved overall performance. Further improvements have also been made to email management and the shopping cart. Users can also look forward to completely new features such as individual sorting within a category and “content types” – a new backend module for defining content types that can be displayed as a separate backend menu.
Technological updates for better performance
In addition to the numerous new and improved functions, a lot of changes have also been made in terms of technology. As of version 5.6, Shopware is now also compatible with PHP 7.3, MySQL 5.6 and Elasticsearch 7, and the company has added many more new features. Ace Editor for simplified code entry and SVG support for all areas of the shop have found their way into Shopware 5.6, for example. In addition, HTTP2 integration provides even better load times and HTML minimisation accelerates data delivery while reducing cache size.
