New Management Structure at shopware AG
Shopware’s founders are handing over the CEO role and return to the product
Joachim Weber takes over as CEO of shopware AG.
Schoeppingen, August 11, 2026 - Joachim Weber, previously CFOO of shopware AG, will become the company’s new CEO. Effective August 17, 2026, he will assume leadership as Co-CEO alongside company founder Sebastian Hamann. Effective January 1, 2027, he will become the sole CEO of shopware AG. The two founders, Stefan and Sebastian Hamann, will focus their efforts in innovation on Experience and Agentic Commerce: Stefan Hamann as Chief Agentic Officer (CAO) and Sebastian Hamann as Chief Experience Officer (CXO). Both founders will remain members of the Executive Board and will also continue to hold the majority of the company’s shares. Joachim Weber’s successor as the new CFOO will be Katrin Krebs, most recently CFO at Scalian Germany AG. The Supervisory Board unanimously approved the new management structure.
The decision stems from a shift that will reshape the retail industry in the coming years. AI agents are increasingly taking over product search, comparison, and preselection - precisely the steps through which retailers previously had direct access to their customers. Part of this access is thus disappearing. What remains for retailers are two things: systems that are accessible to machines and experiences that people consciously seek out. Both are fundamental tasks that e-commerce software must handle for retailers and therefore a responsibility that the founders themselves are taking on.
As Chief Agentic Officer, Stefan Hamann and his team are driving research and practical implementation in Agentic Commerce and integrating the most relevant innovations into the Shopware platform. As Chief Experience Officer, Sebastian Hamann will be responsible for the human side of retail - that is, the way retailers and their customers experience Shopware and retail.
For the brothers, this marks a return to their roots. Stefan and Sebastian Hamann founded Shopware in 2000 as teenagers aged 15 and 16, in their bedroom in Schoeppingen. Today, Shopware is the market leader in Germany¹ and ranks among the leading e-commerce platforms from Europe.
Joachim Weber, a proven expert on the company, is taking over the operational management of shopware AG. He joined Shopware in October 2023 as CFO and was initially responsible for finance, legal affairs, and human resources. Since April 2025, as CFOO, he additionally led the Business and IT Operations divisions. During this time, he played a key role in driving the company’s financial growth and scaling, from financial and management structures to operational processes. In 2025, Shopware increased its recurring revenue by over 40 percent year-over-year, for the second consecutive year.
In analyst evaluations, the company was named a “Visionary” in 2025 in Gartner’s “Gartner Magic Quadrant for Digital Commerce” and a “Strong Performer” in 2026 in Forrester’s report “The Forrester Wave: Commerce Solutions, Q3 2026.” Customers include companies such as Toyota, Stabilo, Philips, and UPPAbaby, the U.S.-based premium brand for baby products.
Katrin Krebs, Shopware’s new CFOO, will assume her position in September. In addition to her experience in financial leadership roles, she developed in-depth expertise in the SaaS software sector during a previous position at the TeamViewer Group.
“Shopware combines a strong product with an exceptional community and a very vibrant partner ecosystem. This holds considerable potential for further international growth. My task will be to harness this potential together with the team, our partners, and the founders. This includes consistently focusing on the needs of our merchants, scaling our new products and solutions, and expanding our leadership in innovation.” Joachim Weber, Co-CEO of shopware AG
“Over the past few years, Joachim Weber has proven that he can take Shopware to the next level, both operationally and financially. The Supervisory Board is convinced that he is the right CEO for the upcoming growth phase. At the same time, we expressly welcome the fact that Stefan and Sebastian Hamann are once again devoting themselves fully to product innovation, especially at a time when the AI transformation is making innovation and technological advancement decisive factors for success. This is where Shopware got its start 26 years ago.” Christoph Hertz, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of shopware AG
“Retail is gaining a second customer group: In addition to people, AI agents will also need to be served in the future. I am certain that Agentic Commerce will become the next infrastructure for retail. Together with my team, I will ensure that the key AI innovations find their way into our platform.” Stefan Hamann, CAO of shopware AG
“After more than 26 years, Stefan and I are returning to where we, as founders, can make the biggest difference: the product. I believe that the experience will become the key differentiator in retail - for the people who work with Shopware, as well as for those who shop with it. Our industry is only at the beginning of what’s possible here. It’s precisely this potential that I want to tap into.” Sebastian Hamann, CXO and Co-CEO of shopware AG (through December 31, 2026)
