FAQs migration

Why not skip Shopware 6, since Shopware 6 has been on the market for quite a while now?

Shopware 6 is based on the latest technological standard and this is not expected to change in the foreseeable future. In addition, an elementary component of the decision to replace Shopware 5 with 6 was precisely that - to have a system that is holistically geared towards the future.

Is the migration environment running as a parallel test environment? Will the operation of the online store on Shopware 5 remain unaffected until the migration is complete?

The migration environment can be treated as a test environment and has no influence on the operation of the live store (apart from the resources required by the server during an active migration). As long as the migration is not completed, the SW6 store can run in the background and cannot be accessed from outside - for example via htaccess or maintenance mode within Shopware 6.

The SW5 store can therefore continue to run as normal during the migration.

What could happen if we don't switch until summer 2025?

Shopware 5 is already outdated in many respects at this point in time. For example, some hosters have deactivated versions of PHP that an older Shopware 5 store requires. Further security gaps will certainly be discovered (and plugged by safefive with the paid plugin), but it may be questionable to what extent the requirement under data protection law to use maintained software to protect customer data can be met if the technical basis is years out of date.

Can I also buy Shopware 6? Just like the Shopware 5 Professional Edition. What would be the actual price?

A purchase of Shopware 6 is not possible, as we offer a license model with the Shopware 6 plans (Rise, Evolve, Beyond). You can find more information about the plans here.

Important: The prices on the Shopware website apply to NEW customers. As an existing customer, you can still secure a great price advantage until March 31, 2024. Contact our sales department for an individual offer at customer@shopware.com or check your account.

If I have already purchased licenses for plugins that are available for both SW5 and SW6, will I have to pay again if I want to use them in SW6?

In the course of the migration, you should check for which of your previously used extensions there is already a successor or a suitable alternative or whether the corresponding function is already included in the Shopware 6 standard.

Is it likely that the price structure for existing customers will be transferred to the new range (from EUR 600/month)?

The previous pricing model was no longer future-oriented. We also want to continue to offer our valuable customers the highest standard through constant development and great features. We want to continue to grow with you and your business to continue our love story. We would therefore like to emphasize that our existing customers will continue to benefit from special existing customer conditions.

I have been using a Silver subscription for many years. What will happen to it from August 2024 in terms of support?

At the moment: Nothing. Support for Shopware 5 will be discontinued at some point, that is certain. However, there is no specific date for this yet and we will certainly inform you of this in a reasonable period of time before the end of support.

Is it advisable to have the migration carried out by an agency?

Yes, but there is nothing to stop you from simply creating a test environment from your live store of 5 and starting a migration from there - perhaps no customization is necessary and the migration will go through without a hitch.

If you work with a test environment here, the live store remains completely untouched. In principle, nothing is changed in the source system (i.e. the SW5 store) during a migration anyway - however, the Migration Connector plugin must be installed first. This should also not cause any difficulties - however, a test environment is always safer, as unforeseen events have no consequences for the live store.

Is there support from Shopware for the migration to Shopware 6?

Shopware Support does not accompany a migration and does not carry it out. This is more of an agency issue and is handled by the partner (or yourself).

However, support is available to answer all questions concerning migration and to help with specific technical problems. This means that if a bug is known, we analyze it and pass it on to development so that it can be fixed. Also, if an agency gets stuck, for example, we interpret the migration logs to help identify the error in the source system.
