We’re moving the Shopware community from Slack to Discord. This shift marks the beginning of a new phase in how we support, engage, and grow our ecosystem.
Why are we making the move?
Some time ago, we asked you if you are happy with Slack - And the majority was not. Reasons were limitations, especially when it comes to long-term accessibility and structured community collaboration. Discord offers a more flexible, scalable, and developer-friendly platform with several key advantages:
1. Persistent knowledge sharing
Slack removes messages after 90 days (on the free plan), which often leads to valuable conversations being lost. Discord preserves long-term discussions, helping us build a lasting, searchable knowledge base.
2. Better organization and structure
With topic-specific forum channels, threads, and tags, Discord allows for a clearer categorization of questions and answers, making it easier to find relevant content and contribute effectively.
3. Built for communities
Discord offers features designed for open, developer-driven communities, such as event hosting, role-based moderation, and both text and voice communication options.
Integration with the Community Hub
Discord and our Shopware Community Hub will be linked in the future. Technical discussions posted in Discord will be mirrored in Community Hub, making them accessible to those who prefer the Hub interface and ensuring better visibility and discoverability of valuable conversations.
Using Discord responsibly
We understand that you may have questions about using Discord in a professional setting. Here are a few important notes:
Discord can be accessed via the browser. There is no need to install a separate application.
Consider creating a dedicated account for work-related use. Your Discord nickname and mutual servers are visible to others, even in browser mode.
Be mindful of which email address you use. If you register with a company email address, you may lose access to your account if you change jobs.
Do not share personal or confidential information. Always scrub logs and screenshots before posting.
Read and respect the Discord Community Guidelines.
Timeline for the transition
Now - Public beta starts. Our Discord is open to early testers. You are invited to join and explore the new setup and give feedback.
