For the fourth year in a row: Shopware remains Germany’s market leader among shop systems

Schöppingen, October 1, 2025 – This year’s new EHI study, produced together with eCommerceDB, once again confirms Shopware’s success: the e‑commerce platform is once again the leading solution in Germany — for the fourth year in a row.

In the ranking of the most‑used shop systems among the 1,000 highest‑revenue B2C online shops in Germany, Shopware continues to hold first place, according to the survey. The current study finds that 11.5% of top online shops use Shopware. In other words, 115 of the largest and most successful online shops in Germany rely on the open, flexible solution.

Growth in German e‑commerce The overall market is also showing renewed strength. Net e‑commerce revenue of the top 1,000 online shops in 2024 was €80.4 billion — an increase of 3.8% year over year. After stagnation in recent years, the market has stabilized. For 2025, EHI expects further growth of 5.3%.

Particularly noteworthy: the top 100 shops now generate more than two‑thirds of total revenue — market concentration is continuing to increase.

Top online shops at a glance Amazon.de remains at the top of the ranking with revenue of over €15 billion, followed by otto.de (approx. €4.4 billion) and zalando.de (approx. €2.6 billion).

Among the fastest climbers are rewe.de (+33.5%), shop‑apotheke.com (+29.1%), and shein.com (+18%) — all with particularly strong growth in 2024.

What it means for decision‑makers For companies currently considering a new shop system, the study offers clear guidance:

  • Market‑leader status signals trust, stability, and a strong community.

  • Flexibility and future‑readiness are crucial to succeeding in an increasingly concentrated market.

  • Shopware’s open‑source approach enables the implementation of individual requirements — a key advantage for merchants focused on growth and international scalability.

“We are proud to have been confirmed again in 2025 as the market leader among ecommerce platforms in Germany. The fact that so many of the highest‑revenue online shops rely on Shopware is both validation and motivation. A big thank‑you to our customers and partners for their trust. Together we are shaping the future of digital commerce — open, authentic and visionary,” said Shopware Co‑CEO Sebastian Hamann.
