Shopware founders in the finals of the “EY Entrepreneur Of The Year” competition

Schöppingen/Düsseldorf, 22 September 2021 - For more than 20 years, the brothers Stefan and Sebastian Hamann have developed software solutions for online trading with their company shopware AG, which is based in Schöppingen. During this time, they have taken a leading role, and as pioneers, they have significantly and sustainably shaped ecommerce with their vision and creativity. Stefan and Sebastian Hamann are now on the shortlist for the “EY Entrepreneur Of The Year” award for their services and input.

This year marks the 25th time that the audit and consultancy company EY presents the coveted award to the best owner-managed companies in Germany. Prizes are awarded in the categories “family-run company”, “innovation”, “sustainability” and “young company”. A jury of prestigious experts judges the candidates based on the criteria of business model sustainability, innovation, transformation, leadership and social responsibility.

A strong community

“The basis for our long-term company success is a strong community of ecommerce enthusiasts, consisting of more than 320 employees and an ecosystem that operates worldwide. We call it the Shopware community. As an owner-managed, independent company, it enables us to develop open source, innovative and flexible ecommerce solutions and to establish ourselves in highly competitive markets. We thereby maintain our open, down-to-earth and visionary corporate culture, which always reminds us of our origins and tradition”, emphasises Shopware CEO Stefan Hamann.

EY believes that in this year of the coronavirus, which has been challenging for many companies, it is a double honour to be one of the finalists. The pandemic, digital transformation and the convergence of whole sectors pose totally new challenges for the economy. Entrepreneurs, who steer successfully through these stormy times, have done a particularly good job. According to Shopware Co-CEO Sebastian Hamann, this is the result of many years of endeavour with a clear entrepreneurial vision of the future: “We are unbelievably proud to be one of the few finalists for this business award. This underlines once again, that the course we have been taking for more than 20 years is leading us in the right direction. We always place people at the centre of everything we do, and this success would not have been possible without the people at Shopware.”
