The SaaS platform was the best choice for scaling the store today and in the future, as it makes growth easier by taking care of hosting and infrastructure maintenance.
Faster updates
Thanks to the cloud migration, our Extension Store is now always running on the latest software version with automatic updates. The store receives the newest features, security patches, and performance improvements without manual intervention.

Migration of the Shopware Extension Store
Our Extension Store is actively used and enables customers to customize their store to their exact needs. As the Shopware ecosystem has grown, it was time for the Extension Store to expand as well. To optimize the store for today, and future-proof it for the long-term, we made the decision to migrate it from on-premise to SaaS with the help of our integration partner Strix.
The move to SaaS with Shopware 6 has already meant a reduced workload in our team. Compared to on-premise the change allows us to continue scaling the store with growth, whilst reducing total cost of ownership and maintaining the highest security standards.
Why Shopware Cloud
As more companies bring their businesses to the cloud, new SaaS providers also start to appear. However, our Cloud offering stands out from the rest, keeping the user at the center and meant we could make full use of a powerful and feature rich storefront from the get-go.
Shopware Cloud also takes care of the hosting and infrastructure maintenance. Since it implements an app-based solution, there is not only decreased technical debt but the costs for hosting and personal resources to maintain the shop are reduced as well. On top of this, it's also faster to perform updates for the Extension Store, since they happen automatically.
Another benefit of the Shopware Cloud for our Extension Store was having full control of our resources. We were able to create a cleaner architecture for the store and standardize dependencies between the store and the connected systems.
For the successful store relaunch, we worked with extension partners to first gather feedback. Based on their input, we then developed a concept for optimizing the store. This feedback led to additions such as Single sign-on (SSO), allowing users to access multiple applications with just one set of credentials. The mega menu and the check-out process were also enhanced, in order to deliver a better and smoother shopping experience to our customers.
Close collaboration with Strix was key
Our agency Strix took a crucial role in this project. Strix’ and our developers shared their expertise and experiences to create innovations and bring out the potential of the Extension Store. The tasks were also divided based on their specializations. For example, while the Strix developers collaborated with our designers on the frontend of the store, our developers mainly worked on system integrations, checkout and licensing. The close collaboration meant a successful relaunch of the well-loved and frequently used Shopware Extension Store – cementing Shopware and Strix’s places in the top of ecommerce industry further.
Outlook: What’s next?
Having successfully launched the revamped Extension Store, no matter how the industry evolves, our store is now ready for the future. We can easily connect third-party systems and continue to scale the store based on our individual requirements. We can also quickly implement changes to the user interface without impacting the backend, speeding up innovation and updates to our customers.
In the future, we plan to further expand the Extension Store with more personalization functionalities, including catering to our international customers even more with additional regional languages and currencies.
