We at Stüer Software und Consulting GmbH have been a specialized software provider for so-called "variant-rich" products for 30 years. Examples include roll goods, individual pieces, and planks, such as carpets, laminate flooring, and other floor coverings. The variety of these products arises from the combination of different criteria such as colors, patterns, and sizes or dimensions.

These products require a special presentation: Displaying different variants via dropdown menus is already well-suited for this purpose. However, our experience tells us that carpets, for example, are offered not only as finished products but also as mass-produced goods. With our custom size calculator, we give customers the option of ordering individual custom dimensions. For the seller, this requires separate pricing – the specific price is usually not directly derived from the carpet's measurements. Our pricing logic therefore also calculates tiered pricing, minimum order surcharges, and optional services offered via checkboxes, such as special cuts, edging and finishing, or installation. We implemented this by developing special plugins for Shopware.

We also take the specific characteristics of these items into account when determining the appropriate shipping method: In addition to standard factors like quantity and weight, the selected product variant is crucial in determining which shipping method—from parcels and pallets to rolls and product-specific special shipping options like freight forwarding with carpet horns—is best suited to the order. Naturally, our logic also includes necessary mixed shipments when ordering multiple items.

Furthermore, as a software partner, we offer additional systems that enable the ideal processing of highly variant products. Even in the preliminary stages, the effort required for product maintenance can be drastically reduced with our Product Information Management (PIM) system, which is used as middleware for our own ERP software C/3, NAV, and others. With our specialized proprietary software C/3, we also process highly variant goods automatically across all business processes.
