For nearly a century, Halron’s business was built on reliability and long-term relationships. However, their ecommerce system no longer reflected that same standard.
The previous platform operated as a closed system. Minor updates required extensive effort. Integrations were rigid. Data exchanges were inconsistent. Internal teams spent more time managing technology than using it to drive growth.
“We were spending too much time managing technology instead of using it to move forward,” said Keith Van Pay, IT Manager at Halron.
The objective was clear. Implement a modern, open platform that could integrate cleanly with Infor CloudSuite Distribution and scale alongside customer expectations.
Halron did not need a cosmetic redesign. They required a system aligned with operational reality.
Ship-to accounts, customer and regional specific product restrictions, contract pricing, and ERP-driven workflows all had to function seamlessly. Atwix began with a structured discovery process that mapped Halron’s business processes directly to CloudSuite’s data structures.
Every workflow, from account creation to pricing logic, was evaluated to determine where data should reside and how it should flow between systems. The result was a carefully defined architecture that ensured accuracy without duplication.
“It was not about flash,” Keith explained. “It was about function. We needed something stable, fast, and flexible.” Rather than replicate the old system, the teams built a durable integration model designed for long-term scalability.
Shopware introduced a significant operational shift. Control returned to Halron’s internal team.
Content updates, catalog adjustments, and customer management no longer require vendor intervention. Administrative tools allowed the team to operate independently while maintaining integration integrity with CloudSuite.
“With Shopware, we are not locked in,” Keith said. “We can make updates ourselves.”
Performance improvements were immediate. The new storefront delivered faster load times, streamlined navigation, and a simplified buying experience tailored for B2B customers.
Atwix also implemented data validation safeguards to ensure accurate synchronization of products, orders, and Ship-To relationships. These guardrails reduced the risk of mismatches and reinforced system reliability.
Throughout the project, Halron and Atwix operated as a unified team. Technical discussions were direct, and decision-making remained focused on long-term value.
One strategic decision shaped the outcome. The team chose to launch with a feature-complete experience rather than a minimal initial release.
“We could have gone live earlier,” said Peter Polak, Project Director at Atwix, “but both teams agreed that long-term success mattered more than speed. We wanted the site to feel complete on day one.”
That approach ensured the storefront reflected Halron’s operational standards from launch instead of requiring structural changes after go-live.
During internal testing, improvements were clear. The storefront’s speed stood out. Workflows previously handled manually could now be completed directly within Shopware.
Product management, customer accounts, and content updates are now managed internally. The system supports how Halron already operates instead of forcing process changes.
“This project changed how we think about ecommerce,” Keith noted. “It is not just an online catalog anymore. It is how we do business.”
Future phases will expand shipping integrations for larger industrial orders, including UPS and LTL carriers. Because the architecture was designed with extensibility in mind, these enhancements can be introduced without reworking core systems.
By replacing a closed environment with an open, integrated ecosystem powered by Shopware and implemented by Atwix, Halron created a platform aligned with both present operations and future expansion.
The result is a B2B commerce foundation defined by reliability, flexibility, and control. These are the same qualities that have defined Halron’s business for nearly a century.
