Shopware relies on a fair model that ties the price of the solution to merchants’ success. This means Community Edition (CE) customers can generally use Shopware free of charge. Only if companies generate an annual Gross Merchandise Volume (GMV) of more than €1 million with their Shopware online shop and want to use the Shopware Account and Store, they are required to switch to a Shopware Rise, Evolve or Beyond plan. Important: As long as you remain below an annual GMV of €1 million, using the Shopware Account & Extension Store is not tied to any commercial plan.
Pricing in the Rise, Evolve and Beyond plans is also based on GMV, so that costs remain in a fair relationship to overall sales volume and scale with the growth of each shop.
Why GMV reporting is necessary
For this model to work, Shopware needs to know the GMV. The goal is to ensure fairness, scalability and long-term sustainability within our open-source ecosystem. Accordingly, the transmission of GMV is contractually regulated in the terms and conditions (GTC).
Until now, there have been two ways to submit GMV: installing the “GMV Reporting App” or submitting it to us manually.
More time for your core business
From 14 April 2026, our new automated GMV reporting will be active (from version 6.7.8 onwards). For you, that means: you no longer need to install an extension or regularly calculate and send us your GMV – everything runs automatically in the background. Note: Only the relevant data is transmitted to Shopware – aggregated GMV and order count per day. No sensitive data is included. This ensures you meet your contractual obligations without any additional effort.
Automated tracking specifically applies to:
Plan customers (Rise / Evolve / Beyond): These customers are contractually obliged to report their GMV to us so that we can verify compliance with the GMV limit under the contract.
CE customers: All Shopware 6 CE customers who have connected their shop to a Shopware Account and therefore use the features of the Shopware Account and Extension Store are contractually required to report GMV to ensure compliance with the Fair Usage Policy. CE customers who do not use the Account and Store are automatically excluded from tracking.
Maximum transparency and “automated fairness”
The new GMV reporting replaces the previous “GMV Reporting App” and its manual installation with a deeply integrated solution that runs largely automated within a Shopware merchant environment.
The goal is reliable GMV collection to implement the Fair Usage Policy and to monitor the GMV/order allowances of customers on one of the plans (Rise, Evolve, Beyond).
A new dashboard in the Shopware Administration always shows you the exact GMV values and provides the required configuration options.
The GMV calculation is based on which transactions are enabled and managed via the shop system – this type of calculation is common industry practice for ecommerce platforms. Taxes are deducted; we calculate using net values. Discounts are also deducted so that the assessment basis corresponds to the amount the merchant actually received.
Your data remains secure
Shopware processes your GMV exclusively to verify compliance with the contractual GMV limits. Aggregated order data is used – no individual transactions or detailed financial data.
The data is, of course, not shared with third parties and is stored only as long as necessary to verify the contractual limits and for audit purposes. Shopware follows applicable data protection guidelines.
No sensitive data is transmitted: reporting is limited to capturing GMV and the number of orders. These two values are collected in aggregate once per day – nothing else.
We value every merchant as an essential part of our community. We strive for a fair exchange within the community, where each part of the cycle contributes in its own way. Together, we are not only shaping the future of commerce – we are actively building it. And that would not be possible without you.

GMV reporting – frequently asked questions
Can I disable the automatic GMV reporting?
No, the GMV reporting cannot be disabled. The transmission is carried out automatically for all shops that use at least version 6.7.8, have a contractual basis for GMV collection, and use a Shopware account.
Can I correct GMV values?
No, a manual adjustment or correction of the values by you is not possible. If the values exceed your current GMV limit, we will proactively reach out to you to clarify.
How is it ensured that my data is accurate?
The system collects the data reliably and correctly. The following principles are applied when calculating GMV:
Returns are included (do not reduce GMV);
Discounts are taken into account (reduce GMV);
Taxes are not included (calculation is based on net values); and
Shipping costs are included.
If you believe something is incorrect, you can contact us so we can review it together.
Does this affect the performance of my shop?
No, GMV tracking has no impact on the performance of your shop.
What happens during updates?
Updates have no impact on GMV tracking or the transmission of data.
How is GMV calculated?
The following principles are applied when calculating GMV:
Returns are included (do not reduce GMV);
Discounts are taken into account (reduce GMV);
Taxes are not included (calculation is based on net values); and
Shipping costs are included.
What happens if I exceed the €1 million limit as a Community Edition user?
If you are a Shopware 6 Community Edition (CE) user and exceed the €1 million GMV per year threshold (according to the Fair Use Policy) while using a Shopware account or the Store, you can book a plan yourself via your account or contact us. Otherwise, we will reach out to you. It is especially important to us to emphasize: we will not automatically change your plan. Instead, we will proactively contact you and work together in a 1:1 conversation to find a suitable and fair solution for your individual situation.
Will I be automatically moved to another plan?
No, there is no automatic plan change.
Will I be contacted?
Generally not, as GMV is collected automatically. Exception: If you exceed the relevant threshold as a CE customer, we will contact you if you do not book a plan yourself.
Are my test, dev, or staging systems also tracked?
In general, all shops that are registered in the account and are based on Shopware 6 (CE, Rise, Evolve, or Beyond) are tracked. The tracking itself has no negative impact as long as test orders are created with a very low order value (e.g. €0.01), so that the effect on GMV remains negligible. If you do not want your dev, staging, or test systems to be included in the tracking at all, you should not register them in your account.
How should I handle test orders that could increase my GMV?
Test orders should generally be placed with a minimal order value (e.g. €0.01) so that they do not have a significant impact on GMV-based thresholds. In exceptional cases, if test orders with a higher amount have been placed and affect your GMV limit, we will proactively reach out to you.
