For the Fifth Year in a Row: Shopware Remains the Market Leader in Germany among Commerce Platforms in 2026
Schöppingen, September 29, 2026 - This year, too, the E-Commerce Report Germany 2026 confirms Shopware’s strong position: the e-commerce platform remains the leading solution among commerce platforms in Germany. The report is published annually by the Cologne-based EHI Retail Institute.
In the ranking of the most widely used commerce platforms among the 1,000 most relevant B2C online shops in Germany, Shopware continues to hold first place according to the latest survey. 12.5 percent of the merchants surveyed use Shopware. This means that around 125 of Germany’s largest and most successful online shops rely on the open and flexible solution.
Growth and New Structures in German E-Commerce
The new report examines German e-commerce in all its breadth: from traditional online shops and hybrid providers to marketplaces and app-only providers. A commerce platform could be identified for 60.2 percent of the online businesses surveyed, while 54.3 percent use one of the top 20 platforms.
Shopware remains the most widely used commerce platform. The findings show that merchants are increasingly focusing on flexibility, scalability and future-readiness when selecting their commerce infrastructure.
Current Market Data
The survey also shows that the market is becoming increasingly diverse. In addition to the technical foundation, services such as payment methods, delivery options, returns, customer chats and AI-supported applications are becoming more important. For companies, it is therefore crucial to choose a commerce platform that supports both growth and individual requirements.
“We are pleased to once again be confirmed as the most widely used commerce platform in Germany in 2026 - and for the fifth year in a row. The new report shows how dynamic and diverse the market is becoming. Our customers and partners choose Shopware because they need an open, flexible and scalable foundation for their businesses,” said Sebastian Hamann, Co-CEO of Shopware.
Implications for Decision-Makers
Market leadership stands for trust, stability and a strong community.
Flexibility and future-readiness are essential for success in an increasingly diverse and competitive market.
Shopware’s approach enables individual requirements and supports merchants as they grow and scale internationally.
