Shopware Brings Clarity to Agentic Commerce with ACMI
Schöppingen, September 29, 2026 - The global market for agentic commerce is developing rapidly. In the future, AI agents will research products, make recommendations, initiate purchases and evaluate delivery promises. This creates a new question for merchants, and Shopware introduces a tool that provides a measurable answer.
ACMI gives commerce leaders a structured view of their current position. In around 25 minutes, they answer 24 practical questions and immediately receive a maturity score along with concrete recommendations. The index replaces broad predictions about the future with a clear starting point: merchants can see where they stand today, which gaps they need to close and which step is most likely to create impact first.
“Merchants don't need another headline telling them agentic commerce will change everything. They need to know where they stand and what to do next. That's what the Maturity Index delivers, and as the Alliance grows it becomes the benchmark for the whole mid-market.” Stefan Hamann, Chief Agentic Officer (CAO) at Shopware
Four questions that determine future readiness
The index looks at the entire customer journey, not only the moment of purchase. Merchants do not need technical expertise or coding skills to complete it. The questions translate complex requirements into practical situations: can an AI agent find and correctly understand a product? Can it complete a purchase reliably? Can the promises made to the customer actually be fulfilled? And are the company’s data, systems and responsibilities ready to support this?
• Discovery: Can AI agents find, understand and appropriately recommend products?
• Transactions: Can agents complete purchases reliably, accurately and with the right attribution?
• Fulfillment: Can inventory, logistics and service deliver on the promises an agent makes to the customer?
• Operations: Are data, systems and governance ready to support agentic commerce over time?
From a score to a concrete next step
The value of ACMI is not achieving the highest possible score, but knowing what to do with the result. One merchant may find that its product data is easy to discover but lacks information needed for reliable recommendations. Another may see that the checkout works, while attribution for agent-referred revenue has not yet been defined. The assessment helps merchants prioritize these gaps and focus investment on the areas that matter most for their business model.
This prioritization is particularly important for mid-market merchants. They do not need to introduce every new technology at once. They first need to understand which foundations are missing in their business, from structured product information, integrations and pricing logic to delivery capability, attribution and governance. ACMI turns a long list of potential tasks into a manageable next decision.

A shared view of the market
In addition to the individual assessment, the index creates the basis for a broader view of the market. As more merchants participate, the results can be evaluated in aggregate. This will show how far the market has actually progressed, which obstacles occur most frequently and where merchants need support. Over time, these insights can inform enablement programs, research and reference architectures.
During an early-access phase, merchants are testing ACMI and helping shape the public version. As participation grows, the index will develop into a peer benchmark for the mid-market and, over time, a recurring indicator of how merchant readiness for agentic commerce is changing.
