Shopware recognized in 2021 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Digital Commerce

We’re excited to announce: Shopware has been included in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for the second time in a row! Find out what the Gartner Magic Quadrant is all about here.

A brief introduction: Gartner and the Magic Quadrant 

If you're in the IT business, you're probably already familiar with the name Gartner: Gartner, Inc. delivers actionable, objective insight to executives and their teams. More than 14,000 clients in over 100 countries around the world rely on Gartner research and advisory services to help them make informed business decisions. Gartner Magic Quadrant, which is published annually for several categories, is also a seminal document. It provides investors, vendors and manufacturers with guidance for their market segments.

How do you get into the Magic Quadrant? 

The Magic Quadrant is based on Gartner research and provides a graphical competition analysis. Companies are evaluated in a number of categories related to their "Completeness of Vision" and "Ability to Execute".

In the final graphic, four quadrants are mapped on a two-dimensional matrix according to "Completeness of Vision" and "Ability to Execute", into which the relevant companies are classified:  

  • Challengers  
  • Leaders  
  • Visionaries  
  • Niche Players

Gartner analysts re-evaluate the Magic Quadrant each year, considering changing market and customer requirements as well as trends. As a result, not only is the portfolio re-evaluated but the criteria for inclusion and positioning in the quadrant are also reviewed annually. Accordingly, major changes compared to the previous year are not uncommon. This year, Shopware is part of the Magic Quadrant for the second time - in the "Digital Commerce 2021" category. In addition to the positioning in the quadrant, Gartner writes about all the companies depicted as part of a detailed report.

How did Shopware perform?

Shopware continued to be recognized in the "Niche Players" by Gartner. As a mid-sized company, we believe, being mentioned in the Magic Quadrant already is a great achievement.

We believe, a major contribution to the improvement was probably made by the rapidly advancing product maturity of Shopware 6. For us, this represents a significant step in the right direction and strengthens us in our efforts to pursue our vision.

What does the renewed recognition in the Magic Quadrant mean for Shopware?

For Shopware, we’re honoured to be recognized in the Gartner Magic Quadrant and, coupled with the positive development compared to the previous year, even more gratifying.

In addition, the Gartner Magic Quadrant offers vendors the opportunity to identify potential that they have not yet exhausted. Since this year’s research by Gartner, several aspects have been identified and already put into action by Shopware: In order to advance our internationalization, we recruited Ben Marks to our company and thus also have transatlantic representation. In the area of Cloud & Automation, we are actively working on a PaaS solution and with regards to the topic of Production Change Management, a new preview feature, the Shopware Publisher, has been released. It is available free of charge in the Enterprise Edition from version 6.4 onwards.
